MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Associate/Scientist to join our growing CMC - Cell Line Development (CLD) Team, initially on a 6-month fixed-term contract. The successful candidate will support the team in the generation of clinical grade, regulatory compliant mammalian cell lines producing engineered exosome therapeutics, including analytical assays to quantify and characterise the exosome product. They will also work to develop and optimise all aspects of a CLD platform which will involve a unique opportunity to develop, optimise and establish stages such as transfection, stable pool generation and screening, derivation and screening of monoclonal cell lines, and phenotypic stability studies. The Associate/Scientist will also have an opportunity to develop new mammalian host cell line(s) to aid establishment of a novel CLD platform.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Working within the CLD team to develop, optimise and establish an industry leading CLD platform delivering high quality, regulatory complaint suspension and/or adherent cell lines suitable to support manufacturing of exosome therapeutics.
    • Transfection, recovery, screening through to ‘stable pool’ establishment and testing.
    • Derivation of regulatory compliant monoclonal cell lines using latest approaches in single cell derivation and imaging.
    • Screening, ranking and establishment of clonal cell line leads.
    • Establishing ‘pre-master’ cell stocks suitable for transfer to GMP facilities to manufacture GMP MCB/WCB’s.
  • Establishing ‘mock’ Master and Working Cell Banks (mMCB/mWCB) mimicking ‘future’ GMP MCB/WCB for use by CMC - Upstream Process Development/Non-Clinical Manufacturing teams.
  • Working collaboratively with scientists in Research and CMC.
  • Ensuring experiments are completed according to company data integrity policies and procedures.
  • Contributing to ‘Cell Line History’ reports.
  • Troubleshooting equipment and methods within the CLD team.
  • Presenting data and conclusions to Evox CMC and Research teams.
  • Contributing to the maintenance and housekeeping of a safe laboratory working environment.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • An ambitious scientist seeking an impactful role that relishes the opportunities and challenges of working in a rapidly expanding biotechnology company.
  • Motivated by the challenge of developing a CLD platform.
  • Desire to apply your skills and knowledge to a new and novel area of medicine development.
  • Proven communication and interpersonal skills.

Experience & knowledge

  • BSc, MSc or PhD in a Biological Science, Biochemical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Post graduate cell line development experience, preferably gained in an industrial laboratory, for example biologics and/or viral-gene therapy field.
  • Experience of working with DoE would be an advantage.
