Reports to: Senior Director Translational Pharmacology

Location: Oxford/London

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB                                                                                 

As the Group Leader for Preclinical Pharmacology, you will be a pivotal member of the Research and Translational Medicine team at Evox.  You will play a key role in the design and execution of preclinical studies for the characterisation of Evox’s platforms and therapeutic pipeline in rare diseases.  You will be particularly focussed in ensuring the smooth delivery of high-quality data for preclinical regulatory studies.


  • Responsible for leading the pre-clinical pharmacology team, delivering in house and outsourced studies
  • Managing a small team of scientists based in Oxford and London
  • Lead design, execution, and delivery of in pre-clinical studies across Evox’s pipeline and platform projects
  • Developing and characterising new disease models
  • Act as the key point of contact for external studieS
  • Responsible for compliance, maintaining rigorous standards and accurate reporting of studies
  • Role model the Company values and leadership behaviours, cultivating high performing and highly engaged teams
  • Build strong working relationships with enabling functions, including Finance and Facilities


It is expected the candidate will have significant experience in designing and delivering preclinical studies from an industry setting, including both hands on and project leadership roles.  The ideal candidate would have experience in rare diseases, liver or CNS biology.  Experience of working with newer drug modalities and drug delivery methods would be highly advantageous.  The candidate must have well developed communication skills and the ability to establish strong relationships with colleagues and external partners.  They should be highly organised, possess good attention to detail and communicate effectively across multi disciplinary teams, focussed and comfortable working in an agile environment.

Experience & knowledge

  • PhD in a relevant subject and proven experience designing and executing pre-clinical studies
  • Proven industry experience of delivering studies to support drug discovery programmes
  • Experience of working with new drug modalities or advanced biological approaches particularly experience working with RNA or AAV genetic therapies is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to apply 3Rs principles in designing studies and interfacing with advanced in vitro models
  • Advanced communication skills and track record of progressing projects using external partnerships
  • Experience of compiling data, writing reports and providing recommendations to project teams
  • An entrepreneurial attitude and able to work in a fast-paced and agile environment; self-motivated with a high level of attention to detail
  • Excellent communication & interpersonal skills with experience analysing, interpreting, and presenting complex scientific data
