MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB                                       

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Research Associate/Senior Research Associate with strong attention to detail to facilitate the early development of novel therapeutics for patients suffering from rare diseases. We are seeking an organized, dynamic and exceptional team player. As a Research Associate, you will play an important part in supporting key activities and projects of the Rare Disease Team. This is an entry level position that could give opportunity to gain significant experience in multiple aspects of drug development.


  • Maintain, expand, manipulate and bank cells of interest for exosome production purposes and downstream assay development.
  • Generate exosome material for carrying out downstream experiments.
  • Evaluate the loading efficiency of therapeutic agents into exosomes.
  • Support the development of functional assays of therapeutic cargo delivery.
  • Work collaboratively across different research departments.
  • Share data within the rare disease team and across the broader organisation as both written reports and presentations.
  • Deliver research activities which are underpinned by quality procedures and best practice documentation.
  • Ensure a healthy and safe working environment and compliance to GMO/ACDP requirements.


Education and Qualifications:

  • BSc (ideally with proven laboratory experience)/MSc in Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biological Sciences, Biochemical Engineering or a related field.
  • Ability to quickly acquire new skills and progress to independent working.
  • Good conceptual, analytical thinking, problem solving, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work in a high paced team environment, meet deadlines, and prioritise work from multiple projects.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to work within a team environment.
  • Ability to provide the driving force to move a project forward.

Experience & knowledge

  • Knowledge of cell culture (maintenance, manipulation, expansion, banking of cell lines and primary cells)
  • Experience of routine protein related analytical techniques such as SDS-PAGE, Western Blotting and biochemical assays.


  • Experience in one or more of the following techniques will be an advantage: ELISA, cell-free or cell-based assays, NTA, flow cytometry, microscopy.
  • Knowledge of the biology of Lysosomal Storage Disorders or Inherited Metabolic Diseases.
